Firefighters in Providence battled a fire at one home twice in one night. The fire broke out in a two-story house on Superior Street just after 5 p.m. Wednesday and rekindled at about 10 p.m. The Red Cross assisted seven adults and six children who lived in the home. Three dogs were rescued, but two pets did not survive.
Firefighters on Wednesday rescued a 14-year-old dog from a burning house in Cranston. Officials said no one was home when the fire broke out in a multifamily home at 1532 Cranston St. about 1 p.m. No one was hurt, but firefighters rescued a 14-year-old Chihuahua named Rambo.

Man sought in fatal stabbing
Police for several hours overnight have surrounded an apartment building in the Federal Hill section of Providence as they investigate a fatal stabbing. A 46-year-old man died at the hospital after he was stabbed multiple times on Russo Street around 9 p.m. Monday, according to Providence Police Maj. David Lapatin.

A total of 18 people, including five children, were displaced by two separate fires in Providence. The first one happened early Friday evening on George M. Cohan Boulevard. The fire started on the third floor of the three-story home, but also caused water damage to the floors below.

Cranston police have a man in custody following a violent encounter in which an officer was stabbed. Police received a call Monday from someone who said Luis Anthony Silva was outside of his residence yelling, swearing and kicking a vehicle. The caller also told police Silva entered the residence and allegedly threatened to assault his former girlfriend, who was present at the time.
