The fire broke out in a two-story house on Superior Street just after 5 p.m. Wednesday and rekindled at about 10 p.m. The Red Cross assisted seven adults and six children who lived in the home. Three dogs were rescued, but two pets did not survive.

Police for several hours overnight have surrounded an apartment building in the Federal Hill section of Providence as they investigate a fatal stabbing. A 46-year-old man died at the hospital after he was stabbed multiple times on Russo Street around 9 p.m. Monday, according to Providence Police Maj. David Lapatin.
